I was extremely fortunate to be able to work with GE this summer. COVID forced the internship to be remote, but a lot of people at GE worked very hard to make the experience great. I worked for four weeks with GE Aviation as part of the Ge Intern Academy. We spent the first week learning about GE and what it is like to work for the company. During this week we attended a live video call with both the CEO and VP of General Electric and asked questions which was really cool. The second week we spent learning about engineering. We learned a lot about the engines GE makes and about the up-and-coming additive manufacturing field. I specifically researched and presented on how additive technologies in the automobile industry is revolutionizing the automobile supply chain and allowing for quicker and better manufacturing and designs.
The third week we learned a lot about supply chain and how it works as a whole and in relation to GE. We did multiple small projects using data analysis to investigate supply chain scenarios. We also learned how important supply chain is to the bigger picture and how much impact small mistakes can have. During the final week, we formed into groups and ran a product introduction simulation. We were supplied with new information at intervals throughout the day and used this to make decisions about our product. Three times throughout the week, we had to do "Tollgate Presentations" where we communicated our decisions and rationale about risks, choices, and other selections. Overall, the internship taught me a lot about GE, improved my team-working skills, and gave me a lot of insight at what working on CO-OP would be like.
